Who We Work With
AVOS's individual counseling services are particularly well-suited for:
- Sensitive and high-achieving adults who feel stuck despite doing everything "right"
- LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking a genuinely affirming therapeutic space - not performatively inclusive, but actually built for queer lives
- People healing from trauma - including relational trauma, racial trauma, and complex PTSD
- Adults navigating identity shifts - major life transitions, career changes, relationship endings, and personal reinvention
- Those in addiction recovery seeking trauma-informed support that addresses the underlying drivers
- Adults with ADHD who need a clinician who understands neurodivergent experience without pathologizing it
If you've read this far and something resonates - that recognition is meaningful. Trust it.

Our Approach: Integrative, Somatic, and Evidence-Based
AVOS clinicians draw from a range of evidence-based and cutting-edge modalities to meet each client where they are. Our integrative approach means we do not apply a single-size framework to every person. Instead, we work collaboratively with clients to identify what combination of methods will be most effective for their unique situation.
Core therapeutic approaches offered at AVOS include:
- EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): A highly researched trauma-processing modality that helps clients reprocess distressing memories so they no longer hold the same emotional charge. Erica Bonham offers EMDR and has created educational video content on this approach to help prospective clients understand what to expect.
- Somatic Therapy: Body-centered approaches that recognize trauma is stored not just in the mind but in the nervous system and physical body. Healing from trauma often requires engaging the body directly - not just talking about what happened.
- Mindfulness Training and Nervous System Regulation: Practical tools for calming an activated nervous system, building distress tolerance, and developing a more regulated baseline. These skills are woven throughout clinical work at AVOS and are available through standalone courses and webinars.
- Trauma-Informed Counseling: All clinical work at AVOS is grounded in a trauma-informed framework, meaning we approach every client with an understanding of how past experiences - including collective and systemic trauma - shape present-day functioning.
